Happy 5th Birthday Music Rocks Australia

Music Rocks Australia turns 5 years old on the 1st of June 2011…

The very first ensemble session took place at Morley SHS on the 1st of June, 2006.

I remember the lighting rig falling, the wooden stages moving too much to the point of breaking a stage wheel and it taking 55 minutes to get the stages down the hill and into the common room setup – the transit system wasn’t quite what it is today! I won’t admit it too easily but I do recall tears in my eyes after all the hard work thinking “what have I done?”… What I failed to focus upon on that day was how much

the kids loved it, something that become evident in the days, weeks, months, years after that fateful first attempt, escpecially once we started to perform – the Astor Theatre performances have been a major highlight… Music Rocks was certainly unique, certainly for hardcore and passionate educators, certainly the most worthwhile and rewarding thing I have ever done in my life – even from that first day it was evident that we created a monster!!!

…and here we are WA’s biggest, best and most unique music school :)

A huge thank you to all the young people who have been Music Rocks musicians – past and present – to all the Music Rocks ensemble directors past and present… Thank you for all of your enthusiasm, dedication and most of all ‘the music’ – so many stories, so many achievements, breakthroughs and amazing performances, so many characters and quite a number of careers in music have been forged!

A special thank you to sponsors Kosmic for all your support…

It will be great for everyone – parents, friends and musicians to post about their memories of Music Rocks and what it has meant to each of you in the coming days… Also look out for the inaugural Music Rocks Newsletter about to hit current MRA musicians so get to www.musicrocks.com.au to sign up :) We’ll be thinking hard for our next set of concerts for how to celebrate this milestone by rewarding as many of you as possible…

What’s exciting is what will come next…

Tribute @ the Ellington

Only a few days to go now for the All-star event ‘Tribute at the Ellington’ – Date: This Monday, 11th April, Time: 7pm for a 7.30pm start, Venue – The Ellington Jazz Club – 191 Beaufort St, Perth Tickets – $10 Bar Admission, $15 Table admission – an all ages event so bring the whole family – great sounds, great food and drink and a great atmosphere…

Get your tickets from the Ellington Jazz Club at http://www.ellingtonjazz.com.au/index.php/schedule/month/04/show/1251

The event is a part of the real gigs schedule we have for our 6 Allstar bands and it will be great to see for all MRA participants what is achievable at the elite end of the Music Rocks programs… These events are always themed and the first MRA event’s theme is Tribute – paying homage to those no longer with us but who have inspired us… The event synopsis is below :)

Six ‘All-star’ ensembles comprising of the best young musicians ‘hand-picked’ from a pool of more than four hundred metropolitan Music Rocks Ensemble Participants will hit the stage to perform a tribute to those Rock Legends no longer with us. Selected repertoire from artists such as Queen, INXS, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, the Doors and Led Zeppelin pay homage to those that have inspired us. A commentary and tribute to each artist will be a part of this unique show.

The performance will demonstrate the remarkable and rapid musical and social results attainable within the Music Rocks Australia Ensemble Teaching System – a system now recognized as achieving the most amazing musical results in Australia. All the hard work by our young musicians involved in mastering some challenging musical material within one school term will culminate in this fantastic night of music for MRA All-stars. Musical gear supplied by Kosmic Sound will also be a feature.

The Ellington Jazz Club performance will be the first Music Rocks Australia (MRA) performance for 2011.

The emotion driven show is intended not only for family, friends and colleagues of the Music Rocks Australia All-stars but for non-All-star participants with their families and the general public. Seeing what is possible at the elite end of the MRA ensemble framework and meeting other young musicians will be a great experience for all young musicians.ellington flash
